27th March announced the global release of Solar, the brand new single from Darkoo & Ruger. A summer-ready Afrobeats crossover, the record reunites two of the UK & Nigerian scene’s most exciting voices and arrives off the back of Darkoo earning the highest certified single ever by a lead female artist in Nigeria with Favourite Girl.
In the last two years alone, Darkoo has won 2 MOBO Awards (incl. Song Of The Year), been nominated for a Grammy from her work on the F1 Album, and released her most successful single and project to date in Favourite Girl and Sexy Girl Summer Vol.1. Now Darkoo has the highest certified single ever by a lead female artist in Nigeria, going triple Platinum. Solar marks her first single of 2026, with three more to follow later in the year ahead of a project in 2027 (provisional timeline).
Arriving in the UK at age 8 with dreams of becoming a footballer, Darkoo eventually signed up to study engineering at university. Her path took an unexpected turn, and she exploded onto the scene with her anthemic track Gangsta featuring One Acen – a track that gave Darkoo her first UK top 40 and was later crowned by the Official Charts Company as the Afrobeat Track of 2020.
With combined streams of over 100 million and global co-signs from the likes of Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Rema, Davido and Dess Dior to name a few, Darkoo has firmly cemented herself as a staple on the Afrobeat scene. Her imaginative genre-blurring music blends her love of international sounds with a UK edge, helping to create a unique form of Afro swing that she’s firmly made her own.
